The driving force behind Berty Skuber’s creative activity is her enourmous interest in the diversity of life. Finding and collecting are part of her artistic way of working, which combines personal experience with experiences and moods of the outside world. She describes her work as a kind of “Enciclopedia fantastica”, on which she works with an abundance of different means of expression: drawings, collages, sculptures, photographic and paper works, objects such as cages, boxes, paper plates, and more recently artist books and video animations.
In the drawing, she takes up what she finds in suggestions, for example through a word sound, something experienced or dreamed up. Everything is arranged in a strict frame, structured into small squares by meticulously placed characters, grouped and set in relation to each other. Fragmented handwritten notes become mysterious signs of a world we do not know.
